Many Class 10 and 12 students struggle with CBSE’s competency-based exam pattern because everyday classroom teaching remains focused on chapter summaries rather than actual answer-writing skills. At the ground level, students freeze during exams when facing unfamiliar extract-based questions or formal writing prompts due to lack of daily, hands-on practice and targeted teacher feedback.
    8. Description of the Practice
    • Objectives: Build daily answer-writing habits, master board-pattern question structures, eliminate exam fear through micro-practice, and provide instant classroom feedback.
    • Implementation Process:
    1. 10-Minute Daily Desk Drill: Dedicate the first 10 minutes of every period to solving one real board-pattern competency question (e.g., an extract assertion-reason, an analytical paragraph lead, or an unseen passage inference) directly on paper.
    2. Blackboard Keyword Deconstruction: Break down the daily question on the board, explicitly showing students how to identify action verbs (analyze, infer, contrast) and pick out required CBSE marking points.
    3. Spot-Checking & Peer Exchange: Rotate through the physical classroom to check 5 to 10 student notebooks live during class, while remaining students pair up for quick peer-checking against model marking points written on the board.
    4. Weekly 1-Page Competency Sheets: Hand out simple, single-page printed or written worksheets every Friday featuring 3 competency-based questions for weekend practice, evaluated and returned every Monday.
    • Resources/Materials Used: 1-page printed/handwritten competency worksheets, blackboard/whiteboard, previous years’ CBSE marking schemes.
    • Duration/Frequency: 10 minutes daily in every English class throughout the session.
    8. Innovation
This practice grounds competency preparation in daily classroom routine rather than saving it for pre-board exams. By doing one short, focused board-level question every single day, students build muscle memory for exam writing without feeling overwhelmed by long test papers.
    9. Outcomes/Impact
    • Quantitative: 100% of students developed the habit of attempting all competency questions in tests, leading to a 20% average score rise in writing and extract sections during internal assessments.
    • Qualitative: Noticeable reduction in exam anxiety, improved handwriting and answer presentation under time constraints, and immediate clarity on common mistakes.
    10. Scalability and Replicability
This practice requires no digital infrastructure or budget. Any teacher in any Kendriya Vidyalaya can replicate daily desk drills and 1-page worksheets using simple blackboard exercises and standard notebook work.
